Gadasin – the fastest on the “Superspecial”

The Superspecial stage, which opened the International Baja “Northern Forest 2008”, successfully finished. Thirty-seven crews participated in this stage (the others will join them tomorrow, but with the worst qualification results and with the appropriate positions in the overall standings). Those 37 crews made head-to-head runs over the distance of 2.7 km with narrow curves, jumps and crossings at different levels.

Because of the thaw the route was covered with slippery snow-and-ice slush and water – not the best conditions for a high-speed performance. However, the cars made their run at an average speed of more than 60km/h. A lot of spectators were not able to come to the Super Special because of the weather (moreover, it is a workday), but still there were rally specialists, Russian Championship participants and guests. Andrey Rusov – russian ex-champion, Andrey Buneev – the first Winner of “Citroen Cup”, Alexander Zolotar – the participant of the North-West Region FIA Rally Cup 2007, Dmitry Nemirovsky – A8 class leader in the current Russian Championship – all those professionals came to the Superspecial today.p>

The runs were done in a quiet atmosthere; we can only stress the fact of a punctured tire on car ¹ 211 (V.Volikov – A.Volikov). As a result, the crew, which was on the priority RAF list, took the last place in SS results. The experienced cross driver Benyamin Dzhepaev showed his usual brilliant result in UAZ – seventh time in the overall classification, ahead of the leaders in the Production T2 category. The best T2 result was shown by the rally-raid favorite Konstantin Zhiltcov. The best time overall was set by Boris Gadasin. As for the foreign participants, the best stage result was shown by Miroslav Zapletal from Czech Republic, who won “The United Kingdom Baja” in 2007. Zapletal posted the third-best time.

The detailed results in national and international classes will be announced later in accordance with the final approval. The Superspecial stage also had its own prize-giving ceremony. Following the SSS, the crews drove 135 km long liason (road section) to the northern part of the Leningrad Region, ski resort “Igora” with the night Parc Fermé. The part of this road section goes along the Circular Highway around St.Petersburg, but another part takes place on the narrow suburb roadways. Melting snow creates water layers and deep puddles. That is why the time limit for the liason is quite big – 3,5 hours.
